Part Guided Walks

A Bit of Company - As the Trail is relatively easy to follow, the natural inclination is to walk it self-guided - you don't really need a Guide to show you the way and nor do you need anyone to tell you how good the landscape is. However if you are looking for a bit more than what is evident to the naked eye, or what a map or guidebook have to offer, then we have an option that may be of interest.

Your Interests - You can have one of your days in the company of your own personal expert local Guide - the 'guided' element being tailored specifically to what fascinates you and what you would like to further your knowledge on.

Choose from our Three Most Popular Itinerary Options

Distance - It is possible to walk the whole 84 miles length of the Hadrian's Wall Path Trail in six days, however on a 'Seven Nights Part Guided Walk', we would generally recommend cutting down the overall distance slightly, in order to make the most of your 'guided' day.

Sites of Interest - The reason for aiming for a lesser overall distance, is that in the company of your Guide, there will be a lot more to distract you along the way and you'll probably appreciate the opportunity of spending more time exploring and discovering - which could include the likes of Lanercost Priory, Birdoswald, the Roman Army Museum, Aesica, Vindolanda, Housesteads, Chesters and of course all of the famous sites on the Wall itself - Walltown, Winshields Crags, Steel Rigg, Peel Crag, Sycamore Gap, Sewingshields Crags, the Milecastles, Turrets, Bridges, Forts...

Guided Day - With a 'Part Guided' itinerary, the guided section (which can take in many of the main sites of interest along the way) is usually on your third, fourth or fifth walking day. On any of these days you will be passing by many archaeolgically fascinating locations, where you can benefit from tapping in to your Guide's knowledge and expertise.

Distance - With seven walking days, the whole 84 miles length of the Hadrian's Wall Path Trail becomes a lot more manageable and is ideal if you are spending a day with a Guide.

Sites of Interest - The extra day (beyond the standard six-day walk) provides not only the opportunity to explore the sites next to the Trail at a more leisurely pace - such as Lanercost Priory, Birdoswald, the Roman Army Museum, Aesica, Housesteads, Chesters and of course all of the famous sites on the Wall itself - Walltown, Winshields Crags, Steel Rigg, Peel Crag, Sycamore Gap, Sewingshields Crags, the Milecastles, Turrets, Bridges, Forts... There is also time to visit the pre-Hadrianic fort of Vindolanda (the only ongoing archaeological dig site in the area).

Guided Day - With a 'Part Guided' itinerary, the guided section (which can take in many of the main sites of interest along the way) is usually when you are walking the mid-section of the Wall (and this could include a visit to Vindolanda) - where you are likely to benefit most from your Guide's knowledge and expertise.

Distance - Five Nights provides the opportunity for a '4 Day Walk' taking in the 'Best of the Wall', which can be considered anywhere along the 50 miles stretch between Carlisle and Heddon-on-the-Wall, however, we would generally recommend cutting down the overall distance slightly, in order to make the most of your 'guided' day.

Sites of Interest - The main sites to explore and where you are most likely to appreciate some extra interpretation, is the area between the Rivers Irthing and North Tyne. This means that you might like to consider giving yourself a bit more time to explore the likes of Lanercost Priory, Birdoswald, the Roman Army Museum, Aesica, Vindolanda, Housesteads, Chesters and of course all of the famous sites on the Wall itself - Walltown, Winshields Crags, Steel Rigg, Peel Crag, Sycamore Gap, Sewingshields Crags, the Milecastles, Turrets, Bridges, Forts...

Guided Day - With a 'Part Guided' itinerary, the guided section (which can take in many of the main sites of interest along the way) is usually on your second or third walking day. On either of these days you will be passing by many archaeolgically fascinating locations, where you can benefit from tapping in to your Guide's knowledge and expertise.
