About Us

Who we are

Where We Began

Hadrian's Wall, the company, was formed by Gary and Tracey Reed just after the Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail opened in late 2003 - Gary being born right next to the Wall (well, 200 yards north of it to be precise) and Tracey being southern by birth, but northern by choice.

What Inspired Us

Gary & Tracey's travels together helped shape the business and it was an unsupported traverse of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru (back in the mid-1990s - when you could still do it on your own) that inspired them - a lesson not just in 'how you could do it', but also 'how you can make things unnecessarily difficult for yourselves' - whilst exploring and discovering a fantastic long-distance walking trail, steeped in history.

Hadrian's Wall - The Company

Gary gave his first lecture on Hadrian's Wall while he was serving as an officer in the Royal Marines. He later worked as an Outdoor Activities Instuctor and Expedition Leader. As a qualified teacher, with a degree in Geography & Heritage Studies, it was no surprise that when a new National Trail along Hadrian's Wall was announced at the turn of the millenium, he knew it was a project to be involved with - Tracey, with her passion for the outdoors and love of the area, agreed. Hence, they formed the Limited Company - Hadrian's Wall.

What we do

Time Travel

An opportunity to 'Take a Journey Back in Time', following the paths created hundreds of years ago and treading the same steps of those who went long before us.

Hands-on Heritage

You can read about it, you can see it from afar, but nothing beats walking the ground trodden by Celts, Romans, Angles, Saxons, Vikings, Normans and Border Reivers - imagining how different their lives were, while we touch the stones they carved out in those far-off times.

Self-Guided Walks

Self-Guided Holidays along the Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail. Itineraries, Maps, Guidebooks, a choice of five different levels of Accommodation, Baggage Transfers, Kit Lists, Walking Advice, Local Info - all you need to make it happen, without the stress of organising it.
